1. It’s made out of non-renewable resources including oil and natural gas. We’re running out of these resources, and it’s crazy to use them for something that will be used for a few days and then thrown out.

2. Expanded polystyrene doesn’t biodegrade. Mistakes happen, and expanded polystyrene gets into the environment as litter on land or flotsam in the ocean. Fish and sea birds mistake this floating plastic for food and eat it. Eating plastics can kill these creatures.

3. Expanded polystyrene is made of dangerous and toxic chemicals. Styrene and benzene are suspected carcinogens. These can leach out of polystyrene food containers into your food, and into you.
